Glaucoma is an eye condition that can cause damage to the optic nerve of the eye, which will cause irreversible loss of vision. There are no obvious symptoms, which is why glaucoma is known as the ‘sneak thief of sight’. Visual loss begins in the peripheral vision and gradually extends towards the centre. Once this vision is lost it can never be regained. It most commonly occurs due to high eye pressure but this may not always be the case.

With early detection and the range of treatments, including various eye drops, laser (SLT), minimally invasive surgery like stents and other surgical intervention, the rate of loss of vision is reduced markedly. Highly trained glaucoma specialists can offer all this at EMEG.
